PORCELAIN V/S CERAMIC

There are basic difference between ceramic and porcelain tiles that cause lots of confusion! But don’t worry, here are few differences between ceramic and porcelain tiles that are simplified.

Ceramic Tiles:

Ceramic tiles are made from mixture of clay, minerals and water. The special clays are dug from the earth, shaped, colored and then fired in kilns.

Traditional ceramic tiles can be naturally colored and left unglazed such as terra cotta, or they can feature colored or highly designed surfaces which can be glazed either in a high polish or dull finish.

Most ceramic tile has either a white or red body coloring under the glazed, colored top layer. Ceramic tiles is easier to install than porcelain tile.

Porcelain Tiles:

It is a newer form of ceramic tile and famous among homeowners. Porcelain tiles are composed of fine porcelain clays and fired at much high temperatures than ceramic tiles.

This process makes porcelain tile thicker, less absorbent, much harder and less prone to moisture and stain absorption than ceramic tiles.

For these reasons, most porcelain tiles are suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations in your home. Porcelain tiles are also harder to cut due to their thickness and hardness.

Porcelain tile is stronger than ceramic tiles. Through the body colored porcelain tiles will not have to be replaced.
